 TK tries not to involve himself in Carlos’ work with the Rangers; it’s complicated, and often confidential, and rarely as life-threatening as his own work. So he tries to stay two steps back, waiting for his husband to open up, to speak his mind, to share whatever case or suspect or civilian is the owner of the weight he’s bearing at the time. It doesn’t often happen, and when it does it’s usually very little, but if he has to go away for work he always makes sure TK knows exactly where he’s going, when he should be finished, and which Rangers or police officers should be with him.

Or the one where Rangers Reyes and Campbell disappear during a work trip out to the hill country, and TK takes matters into his own hands to find them.

Whumptober 2024: No. 19 - Blood Trail/One Way Out/"Is there anyone alive out there?"

A/N: Welcome to another addition to Whumptober, Day 19, this time into the world of BBC's the Musketeers. I love historical fantasy/dramas as a couple people know on here. This show was cancelled far too soon, but here I am still writing about it 8+ years after its cancellation because I am stubborn like that. I've got to keep it alive somehow. I hope you enjoy! Un pour tous et tous pour un. ⚜️

Summary: Aramis comes to in the aftermath of Savoy, left behind by Marsac. A look into what he might have been thinking as he welcomes death.

Heavy lidded eyes blink open slowly, the bite of freezing air and snow greeting their owner as Aramis lay face down in the pillowy white snowfall. His whole body ached; a good sign given the freezing temperatures around him. Groaning slightly, he pushed himself off the ground only to clutch at his aching head with his frostbitten hands, squeezing his eyes shut in agony. He couldn’t breathe, couldn’t think, all that there was to do was ride out the pain and hope that it would subside sooner rather than later.

After an unknown amount of time, dark eyes opened to the bright light once again. He removed his hand and when his fingertips passed in front of his eyes, noted the blood smearing across the digits. He rubbed his fingers together absentmindedly for a moment, his mind sluggish as he processed the information in front of him. He knew he needed to get up, find help, get out of this blasted cold. Dropping his hand, he stumbled gracelessly to his feet and tried to get a bearing of his surroundings.

(Where am I? Why am I here? Where are my comrades?)

Aramis eyes catch the glimpse of a thin trail of smoke snaking up into the air from a clearing some hundred yards away and he slowly picks his way closer, bringing a hand up to clutch at his aching head once again. His breath catches in his throat and he nearly collapses when the first bodies come into view.

He looks around, his wide brown eyes raking over the faces of the fallen. Everywhere he looked, he saw another body, another face of someone that he knew.

“No. This is a nightmare… That is all this is.” Aramis says aloud, his breath coming in gasps as he takes in the carnage around him.

Then, as if his brain could process the information now that Aramis had seen the destruction with his own eyes, reminded Aramis of everything. Savoy, the training mission, the attack. Marsac stumbling off blindly away from Aramis, leaving him alone in a sea of unseeing men. Aramis’ knees buckle then, and he crashes to the ground.

“No, please God…” Aramis mumbles, his hand fisting into the ground, grasping for anything to try and ground him, convince him that this wasn’t real. “This can’t be…” Aramis adds, his voice having lost all of its volume as he sits there, swaying until he falls to the side and his right shoulder makes contact with the ground.

Aramis, too cold and too wounded, couldn’t do anything other than lay there. He mumbled to nobody in particular, droplets of his blood from his sluggishly bleeding wound mixing with the pure white of the snow underneath his head, creating a sick contrast as the colors mixed. Aramis had long since lost the ability to move by the time that his brothers came for him. He had long since given up. So, when a shadow crossed his vision and warm strong hands were laid onto his shoulder and arm, he thought that God had come to take him home.

Just Another Mission - Whumptober Day 19

I think so many people are so deeply alienated from themselves that they have no clue how to exercise their free will and autonomy. For some, this alienation runs so deep that they are afraid of their own autonomy and humanity. It is completely understandable why one would have those feelings, but it can be worrisome.

I want to help others who feel this way, so here are small things I have done to exercise my free will:

Add "guilty pleasure" songs to playlists and actually listen to them (I have a ton of late 1990s-early 2000s music I listen to now proudly that I never listened to in the past out of shame)

Getting the décor item, bath set, bed spread, ect. in the patterns you like, even if it's "childish" (I got a dinosaur-themed wastebasket from the kids' décor section and I adore it)

Taking a new route to get to a place you go to often

Eat dessert first

Celebrate well, and often

Collect things that are "odd" or don't seem like an "acceptable" thing to collect (somebody on my "for you" page collects dandelion crayola crayons and it was so cool!!!!!!)

Incorporate one new piece in an outfit you wear frequently (e.g., a new chain, a necklace, ribbons, bracelets, ect.). Challenge yourself to add onto the outfits if you feel up for it.

Sing along to songs without worrying that you sound "good" or your intonation is completely accurate

Read a book from a genre you weren't allowed to read as a kid (comics, thrillers, mysteries, anything!)

Walk without having a specific destination or goal

Pick up a new craft without expecting yourself to master it or to ever be "good" enough. Get your hands messy.

I don't want to shame anybody for not feeling as though they have free will or that they are exempt from exercising it. However, I wanted to give ideas so that you might read this list and find your own ways to express your intrinsic autonomy and will. You deserve to be a person, to feel alive, not just living. That is what our lives are for.

at first getting diagnosed with cptsd was like, "yay my trauma has been validated (it always was valid)!" and i really thought that was going to be it, but then i started to do research as i do whenever i realize i have something and learned that!! the way i experience socialization is!! quite horrid actually!!

BLOOD TRAIL: Abandoned Cabin | One Way Out | "Is there anybody alive out there?"

Whumpee has finally managed to escape Whumper despite being severely injured. Unfortunately, getting truly out of Whumper's territory is a difficult task, and in their haste, they leave behind a trail of bloodstains and splotches. For Whumper, it feels like a fun game that their captive is trying to play; for Caretaker, who's trying to keep Whumpee alive and safe, it's a lot more worrying.

"Anybody alive out there? Trust me, it's going to be much harder for you to stay alive out there than in here. Just come out and show yourself."

Whumpee stumbles into an abandoned cabin; the first sign of human civilization since they escaped from Whumper. They flop onto the surprisingly comfortable sofa and their hands move up sluggishly to try and stem the bloodflow from their abdomen. However, the effort it took to make it there overwhelms them and they pass out almost immediately. Meanwhile, Caretaker is frozen in the doorway of their family cabin, staring wide-eyed at a bleeding stranger who just passed out on their couch.

A Whumpee who is capable enough to undo their bonds without their captor noticing. A Whumpee who is strategic enough to pick the perfect time to escape, even though they have no sense of real time in their cell. A Whumpee who is brave enough to hold out under torture, thoughts solely fixed on escape. Whumpee finally executes their plan, and everything is going perfectly until they manage to get out of Whumper's base. Turns out, they never actually planned for the harsh environment outside of Whumper's base. Escape was never actually a possibility; nobody could survive these conditions. But Whumpee was going to try their damned hardest to.

Just got my kudos email from ao3 and someone left a kudos on my very first fic that I’d ever posted! Like, I wrote that bitch waaaaaay back in 2016. Back when little tiny weeaboo me decided that the world needed to read my fics even though they were kinda mostly just trash. 🙃 But it was there. Right there in the email. And I ended up just staring at it and going, WTF??? People still like/are active in the Voltron fandom???? I thought we all died back in like 2018.
